Halifax Away - must be the start of the league 24/25
For the 3rd year running we had the beautiful trip to Halifax to start the 1s 24/25 seasons. Cars sorted and an uneventful trip to the pitch, steps completed (should be a warning about these!), warm up done and we were ready to go. Along with the ‘old gang’ Newcastle welcome Ellen, Jules and Emily into the craziness and a return of the lovely Rachel M. Newcastle started well, creating many attacking moves and enjoying being in possession of the ball. It was a quick break from Halifax that created the 1st goal of the game. Newcastle continued to keep calm and try and make the ball do the work and were rewarded with a beautiful goal from Amy C, she did joke about playing up front this year!
Half time, we rewarded ourselves with some well earned sweets and a positive team talk.
Unfortunately the 2nd half didn’t quite start as planned and Halifax were quick to press and steal the ball making the score 2-1. We continued to try and build our play, focussing on our games plan. In sport things don’t always go to plan and we found ourselves trailing 4-1. Sometimes decisions don’t go your way, sometimes things don’t quite go as planned and twice we scored only to find the whistle had already gone or we accidentally played football rather than hockey!
We continued to push to the end and there was a real desire to score, the final score was 4-2 with Helen Mcall scoring the 2nd.
A disappointing result but many positives to take from the game.
