This weekend was a busy one for the Ladies 3s, with our first double header of the season. Saturday saw the team facing Northallerton 1s at home, whilst Sunday meant a trip to West Road against the Medics 1s.

Saturday saw glorious sunshine for our first match of the weekend. Extensive effort from the whole team – including dynamic triangles in the midfield from Jenny, Charlotte, Hannah, Gina, and Erin – resulted in a spirited match, with the 3s persevering until the final whistle.

Goals scored bounced between both teams, with the 3s opening the scoring with an initial shot by Laura A resulting in a beautiful rebound shot around the keeper from Becca. Northallerton then equalised, with Laura C also scoring a superb rebound shot, this time during a short corner.

Several sprints down the pitch from Laura A and Ashleigh, coupled with central support from the rest of the attacking line – including Claire, Laura C and Becca – kept the game competitive.

Despite tremendous effort from the defensive line up – including saves from goalkeeper Maddie, on-the-line defence from Holly J, and excellent interceptions from Holly C and Issy – Northallerton equalised again. This was followed by a third goal on their part and, although a final whistle short corner for the 3s provided the opportunity to end the match on equal scoring, it was not meant to be, providing the Away team with the winning score – at 3-2.

On a lighter note, our eagerness to re-balance the score following the third Northallerton goal was such that Gina set up on the other side of the pitch! Not to be outdone, Holly C’s impeccable (accidental) aim at a Northallerton player’s derriere capped off a not entirely injury-free match. For this reason, Holly C was awarded DoD, with Gina following close behind (no pun intended).

Player of the match was jointly awarded to our dynamic duo at the back, Issy and Alex, for their brick wall defence, solid balls, and good tackles.
