And the MASKS!

The first of seasons road trips south to meet the newest team in the league. Playing the newest team always sends a few waves of nerves into us before the game. The unknown!
However, before we even arrived our lives appeared alongside the hockey. You see… Hannah has a love, hate relationship with cars (and a husband). This was another one of those car hate days. She broke down before she managed to get to her lift. After a child swap, the attendance of the magical AA man and a successful park run in Middlesborough, by the husband, Hannah was driving solo to get there perfectly on time.

Before we got out onto the pitch our team physio took her job to the extreme taping Fi’s leg and BUM! Far too hard to explain all the laughter and comments about this procedure to her niece, who was the special guest for the team today,
We had lovely little warm up on the seaside pitch of Whitby with more sand than you can shake a beach at! Gabrielle was asked to kit up by Brian and then played a few little one twos with Suze on the side of the pitch. Thanks you!
Finally it was time to start the game, Hannah asked for the masks to put beside the goal. Now these are the mask that cause quite a lot of chat and phone calls about who had them and how to get them from Amy before she left! Brian collected them but then managed to leave them in his car at the start of the game. The then ran quite quickly to get them! It was then decided by everyone at the end of the match that Hannah would be a much more sensible person to look after the mask, then Hannah forgot them and now Bazi is in control of the masks.
We attacked the D well and moved the ball into space to create a lot of opportunities. Tackles were flying in and Whitby pressed us well. Claire was distributing the ball so well to create chances for all the forwards. It was unfortunately one of those lovely balls that popped up off the oppositions stick as she tackled Claire. It hit her fully in the jaw nearly killing her! The amazing lady carried on playing and even tried to get her own back as she hit a a free pass, lifting the ball towards Claire in the middle of the pitch. Karma!
This was the match where Suze took one for the team and umpired for us. Something that we cannot thank her enough for doing. Unfortunately, this feeling of thankfulness didn’t last long for Laura as Suze blew her up for running into the D and not going 5, even though she ran from the dotted line! Hopefully they will make up with each other soon. In amongst all the drama, there were goals slotting in by players galore with lifted shots to tap in from crosses and short corners.
Sadly there were no fish and chips for teas but there were delicious wraps and a gluten free option for Bobi! What a great team to have in the league and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season.

Another lovely day with a splendid group of ladies. As Dumbledore once said “Happiness can be found even in the darkest times if one only remembers to turn on the light.” You defiantly turned on the light for one little 9 year old girl and a lovely Hannah! #team!
