After a sunny Saturday morning ironing, cleaning windows and lying in, the ladies 2s met at coach lane for their afternoon game with 15 players and 14 kit bags in tow. Game objectives set and an emergency kit delivery later, they headed out onto the pitch to warm up.
Leeds came out strong and forced Newcastle to fight hard to hold them off in the first 10 minutes. Leeds scored the first goal and Newcastle responded by upping the anti and started to put the pressure on towards the end of the first half. Newcastle had some great chances and shots on target from Jude and Chell but just couldn’t find that equaliser.
Halftime came and a team talk from Becks- 1st phase is going well but think second phase, keep the ball, pass the ball or win something.
Newcastle started stronger in the second half, but after a multitude of Leeds penalty corners most saved but one conceded, Leeds then went 2-0 up. A great whack took out Alice momentarily and Newcastle switched the formation to really increase the pressure on Leeds.
Unfortunately, not even a special good luck present from a passing bird was enough to turn things round for Newcastle. Some great balls went flying into the Newcastle attacking D but the now 3 forwards just couldn’t manage to get on the end of them. Newcastle were fighting hard to bring it back, maybe too hard with some fruity tackling from both Leeds and Newcastle resulting in a green card for each side. Leeds broke away and despite some magnificent dives from Maggie, managed to find the back of the goal for a late third goal leaving the final score 3-0 to Leeds.
